Why Does the Mist Vent Leak Oil? (And How to Protect Your Walls)
Discovering oil leaking down the side of your scent machine—especially when it leaves stains on your custom-painted wall—can be incredibly frustrating. At kevinleo, we understand how important your home decor is to you. Today, we want to explain exactly why this leakage happens and how you can stop it for good.
The Real Culprit: Water in the Essential Oil
Many users mistakenly assume that cold-air diffusers work like traditional water-based humidifiers, or they unknowingly purchase low-quality, diluted oils. Our scent machines utilize waterless cold-air diffusion technology, meaning they can only use pure essential oils and must never contain water.
When essential oils are contaminated with water, the atomization process changes. Because water and oil have different densities and boiling points, microscopic water droplets cause the blend to condense rapidly at the nozzle. Instead of transforming into a dry, light nano-mist, the mixture forms heavy liquid droplets around the vent. Over time, these droplets pool together, leak down the side of the device, and drip onto your walls or furniture.
